B: I feel good when I walk in, I like the smell and the memories. I like the altar made by Pete Schaeffer, the stained glass windows which I have looked at for YEARS and I think the Lady of Fatima? Wall art is still there donated by Lori Ward.
C: The space is great. Large meeting room and several rooms for religious ed of different ages.
D: The seal skin and whale baleen works incorporated into the altar is very appropriate to our Inupiaq identity, as is the fish-rack on the face of the altar as well.
E: For me, its history, and its a comfort zone for me.
F: the space
G: Location
H: Location, the space in the basement
I: Location
J: Location close to the post office and the beauty of the coast.
K: History and tradition, Wood and "arctic' feel, Large worship space, Fellowship hall, Meeting space, Office and Rectory
Q2: What would you like to see in a new church?
A: Energy efficiency, warm, quiet, good lighting, baby cry room
B: More energy efficient with a small place for Sunday service without a priest that can be opened up to make a large space. I like the community feeling we have in our church. It would be good to have a small kitchen so we can continue to have potlucks after mass and other times. A place for children - our parish is getting too small! I also am interested in the eternal light which marks the presence of the Spirit. I had to replace the bulb once so I had my eyes opened that it is electric. Perhaps we could have an oil one that would not cause a fire. It would be good to keep the other Altar necessities and the statues because they will remind us where we came from. I also would like to see landscaping outside of the church.
C: Native Art: Ross Schaeffer, Lucy Norlum, Holly Norlum, etc can be involved, Keep the stained glass windows.
D: More integration of our Inupiaq language and songs
E: I think that the new church should have character in its architect. Some may like current design, but for me that is just another building.
F: space for worship and a space for gathering, a nice ramp for elders, comfortable seating, a nice sound system
G: Warmth
H: weatherization, good walls, good windows, more usable spaces. solar panels, gray water recycling, and other "green" uses.
I: Real stain glass windows
J: Low operating costs, parishioner involvement especially beginning with the design phase.
K: More windows and daylight. One level for disabilities access energy efficient (low operational costs), large worship space, large fellowship hall, office and vestry, separate rectory
Q3: How will you help us to build for the future?
A: Committee participation
B: When we know we are building I would be happy to volunteer labor. I also plan to donate what I can to the parish as I have done. If we had a building fund I would donate monthly. I would like to work on landscaping the lot by transplanting local plants and trees.
C: I can organize dinners for fund raisers. We can optimize the Christmas Baazar this year and the 4th of July next year.
D: In whatever I can do.
E: Tough I may not be able to give money to help support this endeavor, I think that there could be other areas which I could assist.
F: what ever it takes, carpentry, fund raising, painting are just some of the ideas that I can think of for now
G: No Response
H: I can help fundraise
I: Will help with any fundraisers
